Image of TaraDedicated and focused Tara Teske has been supported by the Care Trust to achieve her career goal of becoming a district nurse.

After successfully completing the Trust’s unique Senior Staff Development Programme it enabled Tara to become a well-rounded Community Senior Staff Nurse ready to progress onto studying at university to gain a specialist community practitioner district nurse qualification.

Tara is due to complete her district nursing qualification in September and embark on a new journey as a district nurse at the Care Trust. Tara said: “If I hadn’t completed the Trust’s Senior Staff Development Programme I wouldn’t have gained the knowledge, skills and experience needed to be accepted onto the university course degree and become a district nurse. I have been provided with unlimited chances to develop myself not only personally but professionally too.”

The Senior Staff Development Programme forms a yearlong secondment for community nurses to become senior community nurses. Each nurse on the programme is supported with an extensive training programme and individual mentor.

Tara explained: “It’s been such a learning curve for me and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. As part of the programme I led and managed my own team under supervision, attended human resource courses to support me in a managerial role and had the opportunity to work with other staff to think how we can provide care and support people in more innovative ways. I developed and learnt new skills. The programme definitely prepared me for university and the work involved.”

Rebecca Bentley, Nursing Professional Lead and Nursing Professional at the Care Trust, said: “We are committed to developing our staff and provide a range of unique and bespoke development opportunities to support people to progress at all levels of nursing. We embrace ongoing learning and development.”
