What to expect
Autism service
Our Autism service offers a diagnostic assessment that includes a full history of your needs and is a validated assessment tool recognised by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). We have lots of experience working with people with Autism and are trained in the relevant and recognised assessment tools.
ADHD service
Our ADHD service will carry out full diagnostic assessment for ADHD, which is recognised by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). We can also signpost to other services in cases when issues other than ADHD are identified.
We can start treatment in the form of medication following a discussion with you about the medication and your preferences. We will continue to manage your treatment until a stable does of medication has been agreed on, when we will hand your care back over to your GP.
FAQ's
-
You will be invited to a face-to-face appointment to gather more information for you referral. This appointment will take about 30 minutes.
We will check your referral to see if you already have a diagnosis, if there is enough information from the GP or professional and if the referral suggests you may have autism.
-
After your referral is accepted you will be sent a pack with questions to answer and send back.
An Autism specialist called a ‘screening clinician’ looks at your answers and invites you to have a chat with them. This may take place over a few appointments. This part is called information gathering.
-
Once the team have all the information they need they will look at all the information and decide what the outcome is. The outcomes will be either:
- They’re not sure and need to investigate a bit more
- Yes, you have Autism
- No, you don’t have Autism (they might suggest you have a different condition).
The team will let you and your professional or GP know the outcome. They will tell you what support is available if you want it.
-
You and your referrer will then receive our comprehensive assessment report on how we came to our outcome, including our recommendations and local and regional support.
-
The whole process can take several weeks. Every person we see is different which is why we use a person centred approach, taking into consideration personal circumstances. If you have any questions or worries about the process, we will be glad to help.
