About the service

Our Youth Justice team looks after and promotes the health needs of children and young people aged 10 to 18+ who become involved in the criminal justice system in Bradford district and Airedale. Our team of nurses:

  • offer holistic health assessments to fully assess a young person’s health needs.
  • design individualised health care plans
  • offer hearing tests and provide support with receiving routine childhood immunisations
  • give advice on sleep, exercise, healthy eating, alcohol, drugs, stopping smoking, safe sex and more
  • provide support with bereavement, self-harm, depression, anxiety, gender, orientation and sexual attraction
  • have a named Youth Justice team nurse to talk about any health issues or worries
  • provide direct fast access to the young people’s drug and alcohol team and child and adolescent mental health service as required
  • refer children and young people to specialist health care services, mental health and advocacy services as required.

How to access

Once a young person becomes involved with the Youth Justice team, either voluntarily or through a statutory order, the Youth Justice team will refer them to our nursing team.
