School Nursing Special Needs

About the service

Our School Nursing Special Needs team supports families with children and young people from 4-19 years of age who have complex health and behavioural needs. We provide school nursing services within special schools and social emotional and mental health schools across Bradford, Airedale and Craven, so children and young people with complex health, disabilities, social emotional mental health and SEND can safely attend specialist education settings. We work collaboratively to improve the quality of life and health outcomes of these children. Our services include:

holistic health assessments for children starting at a Special Needs School
care plans according to each child’s needs
hearing tests
height and weight monitoring
sleep advice
toilet training advice and continence assessments
immunisations with preparation work to help alleviate anxieties
fun and informative health promotion sessions
support for children transitioning from year six to upper school, or upper school to adulthood
training and assessment for schools.

How to access

All children attending special needs schools in Bradford and Keighley will have access to the School Nursing Special Needs service. We will become involved with your child or young person when they are accepted on the roll of school and we will come out to your home to meet you and discuss their needs.

If school or yourselves need any additional support, then you can contact us (see below) or school can complete a referral form, with your consent and we will get in touch with you.
