With life’s daily pressures—whether from work, finances, or personal responsibilities—it’s more important than ever to find ways to manage stress effectively.

In small doses, stress can be a motivator, but when it becomes overwhelming or prolonged, it can impact both mental and physical health, leading to anxiety, depression, insomnia, and burnout.

Naomi Holdsworth, Operations Service Manager at Bradford District and Craven Talking Therapies, explains:

“Stress is something we all experience, but it’s how we manage it that makes the difference. Developing healthy coping strategies can help us navigate life’s challenges with greater resilience. That’s why we’re sharing practical tips to support people in managing stress—not just this month, but every day.”

Top tips to beat stress

  • Prioritise self-care – Set aside time for activities that relax and recharge you, such as reading, exercise, or mindfulness practices like meditation and yoga.
  • Set boundaries – Learn to say no when needed and establish healthy limits in your personal and professional life to prevent burnout.
  • Stay connected – Talking to trusted friends, family, or colleagues can provide emotional support and help relieve stress.
  • Practice mindfulness – Focus on the present moment and be aware of your thoughts and emotions. This can help reduce anxiety and improve clarity.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle – A balanced diet, regular exercise, and quality sleep are essential for both physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Identify and manage stressors – Recognise what triggers your stress and develop coping strategies, such as time management, problem-solving, or professional support.
  • Seek help when needed – If stress feels overwhelming, reach out for support. Bradford District and Craven Talking Therapies provides free, confidential help for anyone over 16 registered with a GP in Bradford, Wharfedale, Airedale, or Craven. No GP referral is required.
