Nurses from Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust’s immunisation team have visited Ley Top Primary School offering children the flu vaccination.

Saiqa Kauser, Immunisation Operational Lead at the Care Trust, said: “Flu can be horrible for little children, and if they get it, they can spread it around the whole family. Children can become very poorly if they catch flu and the infection can sometimes result in a serious illness.”

The Care Trust is offering the nasal spray flu vaccine to children in school years one, two and three across Bradford, Airedale, Warfedale and Craven.

Parents of some of the children who were vaccinated recognised the importance of protecting their children this winter and the benefits of the flu vaccine. Comments from parents included: “I want my daughter to have this treatment so her body will be more protected,” and “to protect my child from illness.”

Mrs Sandra Rouse, Head teacher at Ley Top Primary School, said: “As a school we have embraced the flu vaccination initiative. This is just another element to our commitment for safeguarding and ensuring the welfare of our children and their families.”

M.Whitaker mother of a pupil who received the nasal spray vaccine welcomed the opportunity for her son to receive the immunisation in school as it was more convenient than having to book in at the doctors.

Flu vaccination is part of the Stay Well This Winter campaign, a joint initiative from NHS England and Public Health England, to help the public ward off common winter illnesses. The Care Trust is backing this important campaign.
